In the UK, we pay 20% VAT on silver as well as premium so it makes buying silver here pointless. Sad times. Gold is VAT exempt though.

Australian Silver appears to be good value with low premium over spot. You can buy from the Perth Mint, and is ( though low denomination) legal tender in Australia.

In the U.K. the britannia coins have a big advantage, they are exempt from capital gains tax compared to generic silver. Haven’t done the maths as to the repercussions of this though.

I live in Canada. Canada has tax rebates regarding your silver aswell. If you sell 99.9 or purer coins, you don’t have to pay capital gains if you make less than $1000

Not stacking much silver any more, I stayed mainly with junk silver as it was easy to buy and I knew what I was buying, easy to sell or trade in a SHTF situation. I do have some collectables and gold. Precious metals are a poor investment but it does me the warm fuzzies to know I have it.

Im a new collector. In your opinion what should I be collecting that will be most valuable?

I’m new as well, from what I can tell you need to make a decision about whether you’re speculating on the metal the coin is made from or you’re speculating that the artwork becomes collectable/desirable and when it comes time to sell people are willing to pay the premium.
The other thing I’ve learned is you need to think about how you plan to sell when the time is right, are you wanting to just walk in and sell silver or are you going to take the time/risk to sell your collectables bit by bit.
Oh and coins that have been painted by a third party are a trap, you’ll buy it because it looks pretty but for the most part people consider it a damaged version of the original.
Please keep in mind I’m just parroting stuff I’ve watched, consider me as nothing more than someone regurgitating someone else’s opinion

I always thought that in a SHTF scenario premiums would be more accepted than rounds due to more recognization and the chance that rounds can be faked.

Those premiums on the front end really make a difference, it’s crazy that in the end, the Ultimate bottom line is how much silver you have. The more ounces you have, in a long enough spread. Crazy 👏🏼😄 I’ll still diversify but my bulk of stacking will be generic silver rounds or bars

Silver is Silver. At the end of the day the ‘generic’ is worth the same (by weight) as any ‘premium’.
As long as you buy from reputable dealers generics are a good way to get into stacking 😉
