Hey bro. Great video!!
I had a question. Are you sure that but was a chamfer bit? Let me know. Thank you!
CanaDIYan
Thanks! No, it’s a rabbeting bit, I accidentally called out the wrong bit and never even noticed until months later. I put and edit in it. Hope that helps

@CanaDIYan
I figured. Listen, I just finished these cabinet doors. You explained this so much better than anyone I’ve listened to. I’m so very happy with the outcome. Thanks for the video!!

What kind of timber is this? I like the colour. Looks like birch.
CanaDIYan
The center plywood is birch, the boards are poplar
oot
@CanaDIYan Thanks. Is there a reason why you used different timbers for your doors and not fully birch or poplar?
CanaDIYan
Birch ply is common and so are poplar boards. When finished the look very similar and are both nice quality. They are commonly used together

You still need good tools 😉
CanaDIYan
You always need tools, cant make things without them. But not as many or as expensive

This video reminds me of my first home when I bought a Craftsman cabinet face router jig set to add a pattern to the original kitchen cabinet doors. It worked out great at the time but took a lot of time sanding the new grooves to prep for paint. I still have the kit but most likely won’t use it again.
I have a garage storage shelf project that has been on the back burner for over two decades I just got back to. Twenty four years to be exact! I framed up a whole floor-to-ceiling storage system in a couple days and let it stay as exposed shelving since 1998 but always knew I could finish it ‘anytime’. Anytime has arrived because the temps have been no higher than 78 for two months here. I’ll be using this video as inspiration to build some cabinet doors and may order a recessed hinge jig just to try it out. I can use some of the old slammer hinges from the kitchen described in the next paragraph. On second thought I will just order some soft close hinges for the garage project.
Inside I recently (Late July of 2022) swapped out fifty pairs of Euro hinges to the soft close version of the same hinges. That only took 24 years to get around to but it was going to be the end of sanity hearing the cabinet doors slam shut. It took about a week to get used to the way the soft close hinges operate and they were simple to swap out.
CanaDIYan
Wow, that’s quite the story lol Isn’t procrastination wonderful…it’s insane how fast time flies by. Soft close everything is so much nicer, door and drawers. I never go back. Well I hope this works out for you, good luck!
