I n 1896, the State Typical and Industrial College (now UNCG) developed the Department of Reading and Elocution which later on was relabelled the Department of Expression in 1907. The department altered names once again in 1918 to end up being the Department of Elocution and Public Speaking. From 1919 to 1947, courses on public speaking were provided through the Department of English and in 1947, a concentration in speech was contributed to the curriculum. In 1959, the concentration in speech relocated to the Department of Drama and Speech, which later on was retitled the Department of Interaction and Theater in 1977. The department split in 1994, leading to the Department of Interaction which altered its name to the Department of Interaction Research Studies in 2005. Presently, the department uses Bachelors of Arts and Masters of Arts degrees in interaction research studies with an objective on mentor and investigating interaction to link individuals, produce modification, and pursue a simply world.
