I like the idea of a ring, but only to signify that I’m betrothed. The one I have is a sterling silver cubic zirconia tiara style ring. It cost 12 whole dollars and I love it. The diamond industry is fucking disgusting and I genuinely judge anyone who places value on the expensive value of their ring.
When my Great-grandmother (paternal) died I was about 24. I really took notice of her wedding ring. It was round and the thickness of a number 2 pencil. Her husband had died about 10 years earlier. She had worn that simple ring for about 70 years. To this day (almost 40 years) I appreciate how much this simple ring meant to her as a symbol of love for her husband.
After watching this, I bought a pre-owned 350 dollar engagement ring for my wife. She loved it, there is no reason you need to spend months of salary on a ring. We put that money towards a down payment on a house. We got married a couple months ago and it was wonderful. These multi thousand dollar diamond engagement rings are just unnecessary and a waste.
If your fiancée/bride to be feels she needs a big expensive diamond ring, that should be a red flag right there.
