So…. what’s being said here is that The Jews and Christians ADOPTED a tradition from a pagan culture (Rome). What dazzles me further is that the common “wedding” ceremony is in fact a pagan rite. No where in scripture is there ever an instance of a “wedding” ceremony.
Now you would think that with the laws given to the Israelites by Moses from the finger of God would have some tradition, some kind of “rite” as far as the MARRIAGE (not wedding) was concerned. God lay down every course of traditional law and moral law written of in the Old Testament, but nothing when it comes to “weddings”.
In the “movies” depicting Mary and Joseph, or anyone being married in Biblical films we always see the “wedding” ceremonies that take place, BUT ARE THEY SCRIPTURAL? They are not, and that’s adding to or taking away from, isn’t it? You would think with how important marriage is to God, and the foundations of marriage as sacred to our Holy God there would be SOMETHING SOMEWHERE even when it comes to traditional law pertaining to this ceremony, but there isn’t. The “wedding” IS AN ADOPTED PAGAN PRACTICE.
In the ORIGINAL TEXT in the New Testament Jesus went to a MARRIAGE in Canaan, NOT A WEDDING, yet in the newer “translations” the word marriage was changed to wedding. Marriage is not a wedding, is it? So…. what did Jesus attend? The CELEBRATION of the MARRIAGE, which is commonly referred to today in our pagan culture as The Reception. Ya’ll are spending money you don’t have to on a PAGAN RITE. Think about that for a minute.
Furthermore…. unlike what Billy Graham ands many other protestants have said about the marriage being done in public for the entire town or village to see as a public EVENT, that’s not in scripture either. But I’ll tell you what is…..
1: God created Eve in the Garden of Eden from Adam’s own body. God took Eve to Adam. Adam lay with his WIFE, Eve…. as it is written. No wedding ceremony, and God may have given Eve to Adam, but he didn’t walk her down an isle in a wedding dress. Again…. wedding… pagan. So the MARRIAGE is not a matter of state or even the church, it’s a matter of two people who take their vows BEFORE GOD ALMIGHTY. The truly faithful who FEAR and LOVE God will not break their vows to each other or God.
There are so many instances in The Bible about marriages, but NO WEDDING CEROMONIES. Brothers and sisters….. if it isn’t in the Bible…. why do it? Why spend money on a pagan rite? God kept this part of our lives pretty simple, but the marriage itself is the ultimate test in loyalty, love, and self sacrifice for one another. STOP BURDERNING YOURSELVES WITH AN ADOPTED PAGAN RITE.

@Too Many Marys Uh… no they really don’t. Just because the church adopted pagan traditionalism doesn’t make those traditions suddenly Christian. I can give you a detailed description of every tradition we have in the “wedding” ceremony and show their pagan roots. The Apostle Paul directly warned of man made traditions entering the church. I’m sorry but your statement is both right and wrong. Right, because the “church” adopted pagan practices and traditions, but wrong because for one they are not scriptural, and two…. THEY ARE PAGAN, including the ceremony itself.

I’ve never seen anywhere in the Bible where it talks about or teaches about driving cars or trucks or flying an airplane or riding on a trolley car or riding in an elevator or using a cell phone or using a computer or any number of things that we all do. Does that make it un Christian or un Biblical or cause us to sin or does it cause us to honor the romans, and not honor God?

And you will see a verse that says the earth is a circle or end to end , depending on what translation you have, i tend to think the Tanakh is more accurate on this one cause it yields more depth to the meaning of isayah 40. I think that the ring in our culture is such a strong symbol of marriage that to see someone without one would instantly trigger in our minds that they’re single.
That could bring on all kinds of unwanted attention to a married person, perhaps causing them temptation.
Wearing a symbol that you’re in covenant with someone might be the best.
