Just how to make Shaker Design Simple Cabinet Doors. I find this strategy of making shaker style cupboard doors with wandering or loosened tenons a whole lot less complex as well as standard than the common method. Right here I will certainly be using a router to make the grooves nonetheless it can be done on a table checked out. This job was for a client that preferred 4 standard shaker style standard closet doors, that they were going to repaint and also mount themselves.

  1. Hey my friend I’m so happy to be here to get the ball rolling. Man you break it down so clear on how to do this. It looks great.!!! Thanks for sharing.😀😀😀

    1. MrSmithsArtRoom4Kids brilliant glad you liked it. Have a great rest my of the weekend sir. Hopefully you are working on a great new video …

    2. @Longhorn Workshop lovely friend I haven’t seen such quality work in a long time. Great job!
I am always left astounded at the level of dedication and hard work you put in every situation. May you reach every height of success!
lot of love you can join me

    1. Thanks appreciate you for watching and commenting. Yes I am trying to reduce music as much as possible. Thanks again for the sub!

  2. Loved your idea with the spacers for two passes on the router slots. I’ll be learning a lot from you I think. Cheers!

    1. Thanks glad you liked it. Yeah the fence was set and didn’t want to mess with it again so spacers is a good workaround.

    1. For this project the client was going to paint it themselves. But maybe a future project I will show how I paint furniture.

  3. Good video. Are the s4s boards straight and flat enough that don’t need to be jointed and planned?

    1. Thanks for watching and commenting. So I bought the boards at Home Depot where they had 24 inch s4s poplar boards. The short boards are usually flat and straight but I selected the best ones. I did joint them on the table saw, even though they were straight.

  4. Hookem Horns. Great video. I like your old workmate, mate. I have several. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks man, yeah that’s an old workmate still going strong . Appreciate you watching and commenting

  5. You leave the board free to expand and contract so you should have glued only the rail and stiles.

  6. That’s a nice easy method thanks. I didn’t fancy investing in rail and style bits for a one off project.

    1. You are correct, if you are only making cabinet doors for the odd project you don’t need to invest in expensive tools and bits. This method is really easy. Thanks for watching and the comment

  7. Thanks for the awesome video! Question, how deep did you go on the grooves, 1/4” or 1/2”?

    1. Thanks appreciate you watching and commenting. For these I believe they were 1/2” deep grooves.

    1. They are called tenons and in this case they are floating tenons. I made them out of scrap wood myself but didn’t show that in the video

  8. I have actually stopped using my router to slot the stiles and rails. I have found the process to be faster and just as clean using only my table saw. In addition, I’ve been making the loose tenons (not loose after glue of course) because it’s faster, easier, and just as strong. Plus, the rails can be cut to width without needing to calculate for the built in tenons.

  9. I’m working on my first ever shaker cabinet doors and have been struggling with built-in tenons. I’ve tried using a DIY tenoning jig with dado stack on the table saw, and built a router table to try a tenoning router bit. The common factor that’s making it all so difficult is the inconsistencies in thickness of off-the-shelf trim, and getting clean crosscut tenon cuts. Some joints end up too loose, some too tight. Also, too much fraying and blowout. Maybe that’s common with poplar? Or that I’m not using top-of-the-line cutting tools. But too much wasted wood and time. Anyway, as I don’t have a thickness planer I’m giving up on built-in tenons for loose ones. I can get a really clean mortise with the dado stack and if I mark tops of all the boards as I cut them the thickness inconsistencies won’t matter. Thank you. This video is just what I needed! Subscribed.

    1. For me loose tenons really is the easy way to build the doors, the measuring alone will save you headaches. Thanks for the comment and visiting the channel, appreciate it.

    2. @Longhorn Workshop I can relate, haha. My very first set I cut an inch too short because, “Oh yeah, dummy. You forgot the tenon!”

  10. I made a bunch of doors using half lap joints (difficult), then switched halfway thru the project to butt joints with pocket screws (ugly). But this method is brilliant! You basically have butt joints that are reinforced by the floating tenon. I can’t wait to try this out myself! 👍😂
