Episode # 37: Unbreakable

Each time we go back to the polarizing Unbreakable we connect ourselves in knots, in some cases it seems like this is the last of the “genuine” Rancid albums, and an overlooked gem by traditional fans like ourselves. Yet, as we keep returning to it, we continue to have a tough time welcoming the album totally. “Unbreakable,” the tune itself, is a terrific example of the mix of feelings it raises. There is a lot to like here however a lot more to make you smell that early 2000’s LA trash. Plus, being advised of how Tim and team dealt with the divorce with Brody will never ever not color this album. It’s a really intriguing track as you can hear how Rancid 6 was initially going to be a natural follow up to Rancid 2000. Oh what might have been! All that stated, much love to the excellent Joe Strummer, go listen to among his underrated Hellcat solo albums rather of this!
