14.4 is my favorite Open workout too! Along with 16.2/19.2, the 4 minute segments of toes-to-bars, double unders, and squat cleans increasing in load while decreasing in reps
And I agree the standards for HSPU have been dicey. It wouldn’t be a problem if judges would simply force athletes to the proper HSPU standards — fully extended arms with open shoulders (head through the window), legs together, and the one many people overlook, which is hip extension (a LOT of high level athletes do a poor job with this). Andrew’s suggestion would still allow people to have poor form because the shoulders should be externally rotated, keeping the elbows closer to the midline.
